Park holds off Hong for second in Women's Open

Aimee Neff's claimed the Women's Open Championship Saturday at the Mistwood Golf Club in Romeoville.
The battle for second came down to Northbrook's Seul Ki Park and Evanston's Jennifer Hong, but Park edged Hong 214-215.
Winnetka's Allison Finney came captured sixth. Glenview's Nora Lucas made the 40-player cut after two rounds and finished 33rd.

IJGA
The IJGA held a pair of Bettinardi tournaments for 14-18 year-olds in Bloomington and Peoria last week. Competition in Bloomington was conducted Thursday and Friday at The Den and Prairie Vista Golf Club. In Bloomington, Winnetka's Matthew Haller finished in a three-way tie for third among the boys. In the girls flight, Northbrook's Alice Kang placed sixth while Wilmette's Katy O'Malley was eighth and Evanston's Elizabeth Fitssimonds was ninth.
In Peoria, Kang also took fifth

Better Ball
The Chicago District Golf Association held a Better Ball tournament at Ravinia Green Country Club in Riverwoods July 21.
In the Championship Flight, Richard Tilghman of North Shore Country Club and Stephen Saunders of Oak Park Country Club tied for third. Tying for 10th place with were Brian Witkowski of the Wilmette Golf Club and Chris Myers of Midlane Golf Resort.
In the Second Flight, Jerry Welter and Lynn Wodder of the Glenview Park Golf Club shared the 10th position with Steve Hines and Stephen McElroy of the Winnetka Golf Course.
In the Third Flight, Michael Hultquist of Winnetka Golf Club and Mike Lane of North Shore Country Club tied for eighth.
Jeff Rubin of the Winnetka Golf Club and Eric Hoberman of ThunderHawk Golf Club finished in a three-way tie for the top spot in the Fourth Flight.
Runner-up honors in the fifth Flight went to Dan Sharps of Mission Hills Country Club and Darrell Pudlo of Kemper Lakes. John Marchese of the Winnetka Golf Club and Scott Hamilton of Willowhill Golf Course were one stroke back in third.

Youth Development
Winnetka Colf Course hosted a pair of Youth Development Program events last week.
In the 12-13 year-old competition last Thursday, Austin Rendell of Winnetka finished in a three-way tie for the lead, but wound up second after a playoff. Northbrook's Nicholas Hardy was fourth while Winnetka's Ian Wright, Glencoe's George Galanis and Northbrook's Brian Ohr shared sixth. In the girls field, Callie Nelson of Winnetka tied for third.
In the 6-9 nine-hole competition one day earlier, Michael Adler of Winnetka posted a three stroke victory. Winnetka's Bennett Cotten was fourth, Glenview's John Kryscio tied for sixth, Glencoe's Paul Brandfonbrener placed ninth and Glencoe's David Tigerman tied for 10th. Skokie's Amanda Lee tied for third among the girls.
The 10 and 11-year-olds teed off at the Tam O'Shanter Golf Course in Niles last Friday. Jack Junge of Winnetka took third (70) in the 18-hole match while Northbrook's Luke Oberholtzer tied for third (43) and Brooks Whitlock placed fifth (45) in the nine-hole field.
Hardy and Wright also cracked the top 10 at Maple Meadows Golf Course in Wood Dale July 22. Hardy tied for second with a 74 while Wright tied for seventh (80).
