Boomer, S. S. (Died)

S. S. Boomer, of 1123 Lake avenue passed away Wednesday morning, November 7, after an illness of several months. Mr. Boomer was born in Charleston, Massachusetts, October 25, 1837. He is a member of a long line of Boomers, his ancestors coming to Massachusetts from England in 1656.

Mr. Boomer served his contry [sic] during the entire period of the Civil war, enlisting in Company H., 89th Regiment of Illinois Infantry, and was corporal of his company. He spent six months in Andersonville prison and counted the hardships of those days as honorable, as did his ancestors who withstood the British at Concord and Lexington. After the Civil war, Mr. Boomer, with two other brothers, became bridge builders and erected some of the notable bridges across the Hudson river and other streams east and west.

In 1867 he married Lois Barnes, and some years later took up his residence in Yorkville, Illinois, where he became one of the organizers and officers of the Yorkville National Bank, a position which he held until his death.

The family moved to Wilmette a little over six years ago. They have been faithful and regular attendants of the Congregational church and have made for themselves a host of friends in the village. Mr. Boomer is survived by his wife, one son, Henry R. P., of Pavette, Idaho; three daughters, Mrs. F. L. Arnold, and Miss Jessie Boomer of Wilmette; and Mrs. Edith Lyon of Yorkville, Illinois.

The funeral services will be held on Saturday and burial will be in the family lot at Yorkville, Illinois.
