Apparently failing to realize the speed of a fast train, Edward Farmer, 65 years old, of Highland Park, was struck and instantly killed when he attempted to cross in front of it at the Kenilworth station of the Chicago and North Western railroad last Wednesday afternoon.
The train was No. 206, south bound, a fast, through train. The old man, who is the father of E. E. Farmer, contractor, of Highland Park, with whom he made his home, was sitting in a truck on the west side of the tracks. He started across to the station as the train was approaching and before he could cross the tracks the train was upon him. He was hurled fifty feet forward and struck the low fence on the east side of the track with such force that one of the heavy wooden posts was knocked out of line.
The body was taken to Scott's undertaking parlors, 1124 Central avenue, Wilmette, where an inquest was held Thursday morning. A verdict of death by accident was returned by the coroner's jury.- Featured Link
