Funeral services for Joseph A. Sheppard, 1515 Walnut avenue, who died January 2, as the result of injuries received when he was struck by an automobile in Evanston last October, were held from St. Joseph's church, Wednesday, January 5. Burial was at Calvary cemetery.
Mr. Sheppard, well known on the north shore as assistant to Magistrate D. M. Mickey, was run down by a "vampire" car at Bennett avenue and Central street, Evanston. He was thrown to the parkway by the impact. The driver of the car failed to stop and his identity has never been learned. Mr. Sheppard managed to reach the home of his brother-in-law, Joseph Kearney at 2610 Lincoln avenue, near the scene of the accident, where it was found he had suffered severe cuts and bruises. He was forced to take to his bed and failed to recover from the severe shock.
Mr. Sheppard was born in Paris, Ontario, Canada, July 22, 1850, and became a resident of Wilmette in 1900, where he resided, with his wife Margaret Kearney Sheppard, up to the time of his death. He was connected with railroads in Canada and the United States for many years. He left the railroad business about ten years ago when he became assistant to Magistrate D. M. Mickey which position he held to the time of his death.- Featured Link
