- Nine local karate students spent spring break in Japan as part of the United States Junior National karate team. Local competitors included Kate Roin and Katie Spitzer Cohen, former New Trier High School students, and current students Aaron Dubnow, Sarah Minkus, Scott Thomas, Dan Kiefer, Caroline Minkus, Andy Schaye, Lily Ferguson and Kevin Thomas. Beth Asher, 12, of Highland Park was the youngest member of the group which trains at Pride Dojo in Glencoe. Marla Cohen, John Fonseca and Linda Donner coached.
