- 634 Prairie Ave., heavily damaged in a 2002 fire and then abandoned, was restored by Andy Scholnik and his firm, Ansco Construction. The house had once belonged to John Doig, a businessman who came to Wilmette in 1870. It was built at 1104 Greenleaf Ave. but moved west of Green Bay Road in the 1950s to make way for Scott Funeral Home. In more recent times, it was converted into a rooming house. The building is currently for sale.
Two properties receiving preservation awards are 500 Ridge Road, a brick Italian Renaissance house designed by architects Harold Zook and W. F. McCaughey in 1926, and a stone and timber Tudor at 2109 Chestnut Ave.
The Commission recognized 1219 Wilmette Ave, the commercial building that houses Millen Ace Hardware and The Big Picture.
Awards for sympathetic additions were given to 1137 Greenwood Ave and 2600 Kenilworth avenue.
Honorable mentions went to 905 Greenwood, 1208 Forest Ave., and 2326 Iroquois Road for new construction consistent witwh neighboring homes. Honorable mention for preservation went to 1235 Greenwood and 2408 Elmwood. photograph 634 Prairie - Date of Publication
