The Bathing houses on the beach will be ready for use Saturday, July 8, unless there is some unforeseen delay, according to an announcement made by the Wilmette Beach Improvement association. The formal opening of the beach will be celebrated July 15 by an exhibition of aquatic sports. Full announcement of this will be made in next week's paper. Free swimming classes for all who have contributed to the bathing beach fund will be conducted in the mornings at 10:30 and 11:30 by Mr. W. H. Summers, the life saver. Mr. Summers began work July 1 on the beach, and has since been sworn in by the village council as a special policeman. All who have not contributed to the beach should do so at once by mailing checks to Edward J. Schager, treasurer of the Wilmette Beach Association, 1222 Chestnut street. There are many whom the solicitors have not been able to reach. The expenses on the beach have been heavier than expected, but exceptionally satisfactory results have been obtained for the convenience of the public. After July 15 the season rate for use of bathing houses will be $5. A charge of 50 cents will be made of each individual for each single use of the beach. Until July 15 contributions will be received without any definite amount being specified. All who contribute are entitled to the free use of everything on the beach. When one considers the facilities offered such as bathing houses, playground apparatus, lifeguard and a swimming instructor together with police protection this organization provides the residents of this village with a wonderful opportunity to get the most out of a delightful bathing beach of a hot summer. In addition to these conveniences it should be said that the bathhouse which will be erected by Saturday is of the portable sort and will be commodiously arranged for men and women. It will be located on the beach at the foot of Lake Avenue. For the children and the grownups of juvenile alacrity sliding boards, swings and rings are to be erected within the week. Mr. Summers, the lifeguard and swimming instructor, will be on duty from 8 o'clock in the morning until 6 o'clock at night officially, except for brief intervals during the day when he is forced to take time off for his meals. At such times he will have a substitute on the job. As an extra precaution Mr. Summers will pitch his tent upon the beach and spend the nights there on the chance that he may be prospectively useful in an emergency.
