It takes us b a c k t o a p e r i o d w h e n K e n i l w o r t h , founded by J o s e p h Sears i n 1890, h a d j u s t a t t a i n e d its m a j o r i t y as a c o m m u n i t y , there were tennis courts o n S h e r i d a n r o a d , and the b o u n d a r y line to the west ended w i t h the C h i c a g o a n d N o r t h W e s t ern r i g h t - o f - w a y . T h e p o p u l a t i o n at that time was about 900, a n d h a d i n c r e a s e d b y o n l y 300 w h e n the 1920 census was t a k e n T h a t year, h o w e v e r , saw the start of the p o s t - w a r b u i l d i n g b o o m i n the C h i c a g o a r e a a n d the a n n e x a t i o n of some of the t e r r i t o r y n o w w i t h i n the village limits to the west of the r a i l road right-of-way.
