It takes us b a c k t o a p e r i o d w h e n K e n i l w o r t h , founded by J o s e p h Sears i n 1890, h a d j u s t a t t a i n e d its m a j o r i t y as a c o m m u n i t y , there were tennis courts o n S h e r i d a n r o a d , and the b o u n d a r y line to the west ended w i t h the C h i c a g o a n d N o r t h W e s t ern r i g h t - o f - w a y . T h e p o p u l a t i o n at that time was about 900, a n d h a d i n c r e a s e d b y o n l y 300 w h e n the 1920 census was t a k e n T h a t year, h o w e v e r , saw the start of the p o s t - w a r b u i l d i n g b o o m i n the C h i c a g o a r e a a n d the a n n e x a t i o n of some of the t e r r i t o r y n o w w i t h i n the village limits to the west of the r a i l road right-of-way. " F i r s t C h u r c h O f Christ, Scientist W i l m e t t e , I l l i n o i s , " at 1001 a n d 1003 C e n t r a l avenue, was g r a n t e d a c h a r t e r f r o m the S e c r e t a r y of State o n N o v e m b e r 10, 1896. It was accepted as a b r a n c h of T h e M o t h e r C h u r c h , T h e F i r s t C h u r c h of C h r i s t . Scientist, in B o s t o n , M a s s a c h u s e t t s , on F e b r u a r y 29. 1897.
