Children's Theater 9 To Present 'Harkee EE: Lisa Miller will play the title role in the Saturday cast of the double-cast show. The Wilmette Children's Theater is rehearsing its first play of the new season, "Harkee the Cat." The play, which won an honorable mention in the theater's annual playwriting contest, will be presented at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 29 and 30 in Wilmette Junior High SchoolHoward, Seventeenth St. and Spencer Av. Cast members for the Oct. 29 performance are Robin Shook, Tom Kinkamp, Nancy Malosky, Lisa Miller, Ann DeVuono, Maria Lipman, Mary Ellen Badger, Ted Fox, Debbi Garber, Nancy Kelly, and Kathy Lambert, all of Wilmette. Others are Diane McDonough, Linda Mensinga, and Jim Whelan, all of Wilmette, and Peter Ogden of Kenilworth. both performances are Chuck Buddeke, Steve Green, David Ehert, and Michael Ross, all of Wilmette. Jeanette (Mrs. Thomas) Leahy of Wilmette will be the director and Gail Bergquist and Patti Falk, both of Wilmette, will be student directors. Retells Old Tale "Harkee the Cat," written by Cleve Haubold with incidental music by James A. Hitt, is a lighthearted telling of the old tale, "The Wise Men of Gotham." In this farce, the villagers resort to outlandish devices to outwit greedy noblemen and save their town from destruction. Their leader is a feline named Harkee. Mr. Haubold wrote the play for the high school theater workshop of the University of Texas drama department, where it premiered in 1965. The play also won first prize in the Atlanta Junior League Playwriting Contest. The playwright also has written "The Last of the Papier-Mache Cupids," "The Big Black Box," and "Richard Harding Bush or the Rococo Coco Bean." He currently is playwright-in-residence at Dominican College, New Orleans. Also Will Perform The Oct. 30 performance will feature Ellen Steinberg, Don Wade, Marcia Dorheim, Roger Kipley, Josh Harris, Lori Peller, Jimmy Jacobson, Gary Fresen, and Barbara Conterio. Others are Lise Grossman, Steve Hausheer, Rene Van Hulle, Kathy Kebler, Leslie Jean Leon, and Earl Chesler, all of Wilmette. Cast members who will be in Nib, aide to the King's messenger, visits Marion, the butcher's wife. The roles are acted by Roger Kipley and Robin Shook. t : Booty Photos Tryouts Set Both children and adults will perforin in the Wilmette Children's Theater production of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." The play will be presented at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 17 and 18 in Wilmette Junior High SchoolHoward. Tryouts for children grades 4 through high school will be held from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Oct. 31 in Howard auditorium; Nov. 1 in the Avoca School audio-visual room; and Nov. 2 in Howard auditorium. Tryouts for adults and high school students will be held from 8 to 10 p.m. Nov. 2 and 3 in the Avoca School audio-visual room.
