Officials to Attend Fuel Tax Meeting Metropolitan mayors and village presidents will attempt to block a proposed change in the state's motorfuel tax formula in a meeting Thursday with Francis S. Lorenz. In addition, the Mayors Council will ask the state director of public works and buildings for a reduction in the local share of projects financed by the tax and broader discretion in the expenditure of the money, according to Glenview Pres. G. Richard Schreiber, who has been one of the leaders in opposition to the state proposal. The proposal, announced some months ago, would increase the local share of projects financed jointly by municipalities and the state. Municipalities object to the proposed change because it would reduce the amount of money available for local road projects not financed jointly by municipalities and the state. Additional state proposals are to: · Require that municipalities pay the. entire cost of the additional width in streets wider thatv Trriiiimum standards. ^' Municipalities have been critical of the state requirement that parking restrictions be applied to streets financed by the tax and to the state's refusal to allow use of the funds to construct off-street parking facilities. Mr. Lorenz's proposals were to have gone into effect Aug. 1 but were postponed indefinitely to allow objections to be heard. Mxont to "vftm GLASS-LINED A U T O M A T I C Q/M, WATER An A. 6 .
