GOP Township Captains Learn Election-day Duties Forty-eight Republican precinct captains representing New Trier Township villages have been attending briefing sessions on their election-day duties. Bert Wales, Wilmette GOP area chairman, spoke to two groups of precinct captains last week at meetings in New Trier Township Republican Headquarters, 545 Lincoln Av., Winnetka. The area chairmen told the captains to bring pliers, adhesive tape, and several dimes to the polls on election day. "In addition to his main duties, the precinct captain should be prepared for various minor problems which can occur on election day," Mr. Wales pointed out. "For example, an electrical outlet may need attention, or mounting a flag outside the polling place may prove difficult. Pliers and adhesive tape are helpful in cases like these. Dimes are for telephoning in case of more serious emergencies, such as repairs needed on a voting machine." "Refresher" information for experienced party workers and basic instruction for more recent appointees were covered in brief talks by Mr. Wales and other local Republican officials, Fred Lederer of Winnetka, and John Denniston of Wilmette. Topics discussed included the method of contacting new residents and helping them with registration information, distribution of campaign literature, and election-day procedures. ;, Inc.
