Hoping to increase its membership. which has been approximately 1,500, to 1,650 within the new year, the guild at Sunday's reception to Walter Prichard Eaton, dramattc critic of national reputation,_will formally open the campaign to be advanced within near weeks. This will be held at the home of Walter A. Strong, publisher of the Chicago Daily News, Mr. and Mrs. Strong receiving in the theater and ballroom which they have built in their beautiful home at 1377 Tower road, Winnetka. Cards have been sent to officers, directors and committee members of the guild, but not to the membership in general. but thev. and all others interested in little theater activities, are extended cordial invitation to attend the reception. It will be informal. Henry Kitchell Webster· will introduce Mr. Eaton, and the latter will speak at 4. The guild is looking ahead to a particularly interesting repertoire of plays this season. The first Evanston production is scheduled for Nov. 14 and 15 at the Woman's club, the play to be announced later. David Owen. who resigned his membership on the faculty of the School of Speech. Northwestern university, to devote his entire time to directing the productions of the guild. will have an able assistant in Richard Woellhof who comes from the University of Michigan. where he worked with Mr. Owen. to be technical director of the guild activities. He succeeds Aleyn H. Burtis who served in this office last .season. The president of the guild. Arthur H. Boettcher of Evanston. left this week for a month's business trip abroad, but will actively re· sume direction of the organization upon his return. Three Evanston women have been appointed membership campaign ·chair· men for the lo~al territory this season -Mrs. Fred Parker, M·rs. Charles E Parkhill and Mrs. K. H. Dixon. The ' type of con'test has been prompted by the nature of this year's seal, of which the decorative subject is a painted frigate. Sale of Christmas seals is the Tuberculo3is institute's method of raising funds each year for its work. Competition ' ·in ship-building will be conducted in two classes : A for school children below their sophomore year in high_ school. or tenth grade; and class B for older . people. Amateu_rs from all over Cook county will enter the contest which will include participants from manual train-· ing classes, occupational therapy classes, as w~ll a-~ unaffiliated individuals. Names of the entrants are due in the Chicago office by Oct. 15. and the last day for the submission of ship models is Nov. 22.
