Alexander Grossman, 410 Washington avenue, was asph)'Xia.ted by carbon l!lOnoxide gas generated by his automobile as he was preparing to take it from his garage Monday afternoon. Mr. Grossman went out to start the car· at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, and was dead when found at 8:10 o'clock tha.t evening. He was overcome as he sat at the wheel of the car. Mr. Grossman had been at home during the morning and early afternoon hours on Monday. At noon he bade his· daughter farewell as she left for school. Mrs. Grossman was away attending a benefit card party. Knowing Mr. Grossman had intended going . into the city late in the afternoon, Mrs. Grossman was not surprised when he failed to appear at the home at the usual dinner hour. When, however, the evening progressed and he had not arrived or telephoned, she became alarmed and notified her father who resides in the same block. A little later they found M t;. Patrolman Henry Brautigan who was traveling the streets in the' vicinity of the Grossman home, was attracted by Mts. Grossman's hysterical cries. Arriving at the home he immediately summoned the pulmotor crew of th~ fire department. Help was of no avaal, however, physicians having declared the man dead 'for several hours. Mr. Grossman is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edith Grossman; his daughter, Janice; and his parents, Mr, and Mrs. Henry Grossman. He wa:s a member of Oriental lodge No. 33, A. F. & A. M., and Oriental Consistory. Funeral services were conducted from the residence Wednesday, February 13, at p. m., and burial was at Beth-El cemetery. Lloyd Hollister, Inc., is conducting the band fund. It will be noted this week that the Wilmette Post of the American Legion, and the Modern Woodmen of America, Winnetka Camp, were among the contributors .. T~ey have joined numerous other orgamza~10ns and scores of individuals . who are mterested in helping the band "doll up" for its concert and parade events. The Wilmette Operatic society promises to do its share next week when two performances are to be given at the Wilmette Woman's club, one-third of the total proceeds from which will be directed into the band fund. The dates of the performances are Thursday and ~atu r day nights, February 21 and 23. Tackets may be secured at the door. There's a chance to witness a first class entertainment and at the same time help the band fund. Burge Funeral services are to be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Mrs. Abbie C. Burge at the residence at 321 Fourth street. Mrs. Burge passed away Wednesday afternoon.
