6 . WILMETTE LIFE, FRIDAY, JUNE 6, 1924 CHILDREN TROOP D. WINS BAPTIST APPEAR IN PAGEANT SCOUT·TROPHY Scoutmasters' Award Annexed for Third Time One of the most unique Children's Day programs ever given in the village will be witnessed at the Wilmettte Baptist church Sunday morning, June 8, when the Sunday school presents "The Golden Century Garden," a pageant commemorating the tOOth anniversary of the founding of the American Baptist Publication society. The festival, which will begin at 10 :30 o'clock, combines the regular church service and the Sunday school hour and will be observed by the entire congregation. Concerning the festival, a member of the church has explained: "This 'Children's Day festival' is arranged to commemorate. in appropriate Children's Day tyle , the Centennial of the American Baptist Publication society. It does not attempt to give any details of the history of the 'Golden Century', nor portray in dramatic action many of the events of the hundred years. It is, rather, an attempt to combine the fitting ideas for Children's Day-the flowers and the children, particularly the younger children, with the thought of the achievements of 'The Golden Century'." Baptist Sunday school children have been contributing Ito the American Baptist Publicatid n !SOciety for the past 75 years, it is explained, and funds thus accumulated have been directed into the work of the 'B aptist denomination among the children of the mining and large industrial regions of the country, emphasizing the element of religious education. Headquarters of the society are in Philadelphia. Augmenting this honor, Troop II holds the ·distinction of never having bowed in defeat, either in local or outof-town meets. After the second event. the tug-ofwar, was run off Friday, Troop II was never headed, piling up a total of 77 points as against 48Yz for the nearest competitor. Most of Troop II's points were secured on scout events, although the troop placed on almost every event, including athletics and stunts.
