D. degrees are included in the most recent announcement by President \Vatter Dill Scott of the new faculty appointments to the College of Liberal Arts of Northwestern university. Two of these and ~heir appointments-Prof. James Arthur Todd and Prof. Franklin D. Barker have already been announced. The others are Prof. Albert Russell Ellingwood, Prof. C. S. Braden, Prof. Virgil B. Heltzel, and Prof. \Villiam Herbert Sheldon. Prof. Ellingwood, who has served at Colorado college, Oxford, and University of Pennsylvania, is to be a member of the Political Science department. Prof. Braden, who recently \von his Ph. D. from the UniYersity of Chicago, . is to go on the staff of the School of Religious Education. Prof. Heltzel, who has been at Ran- ' .. JI dolph-Macon college and at the University of Chicago where he won his Ph. D., will become a member of the faculty of the English department. C. R. Noller, recently connected with Washington university and the Universitv of Illinois, which is to award hi-m a doctor's degree, will be in the chemistry department. Armand E. DuGord, recently of the University of Paris and of Indiana university, is to be a member of the romance language department. Prof. Sheldon will be assistant profes so r of psychology. Nearly 200 boys and girls and men and women competed in the 16th annual Summer Swimming Carnival conducted by Coach Tom Robinson at Northwestern university Saturday afternoon. . The contests brought to a close the summer swimming classes held by Coach Robinson. Each summer the veteran swimming coach teaches young and old the art of swimming as well as improving those who already know how. Forty-six separate events were on the Yaried program which included boys' and girls' competition races, splash parties and relay races of variou s length s. Kenneth L. "Tug" \Viison, athletic. director at the university, was referee. Prof. Clvde L. Grose, head of the summer school, ,,·as one of the judges. Other judges were John Paver, Prof. Leon Kranz and ~Irs. B.
