The commencement exercises of the National Kindergarten and Eleme~t ary college, held in Harrison hall Wednesday afternoon, June 8, were unusually lovely and impressive. The daisy chain, carried by sixty whiteclad freshmen, formed the aisles through which the graduating students passed, and was then festooned in long loops across the front of the stage and carried on up into the balcony. President Edna Dean · Baker's welcome to the parents and friends of the graduating students was followed by the commencement address given by Dr. Albert W. Palmer of Oak Park. Dr. Palmer chose as his subject· the Words "Like a Tree," and suggested several tree characteristics which the teach e r might wisely emu late-the spirit of aspiration and growth; the sending out of sturdy roots of faith and courage and loyalty which will bring nourishment and strength from h i d d e n sources; fruitfulness; the courageous acceptance oi environment and the unceasing effort to transform that environment into a thing of beauty.
