Attendance, also. has been high wh~never the weather has been favorable. During the past few weeks picnic parties, hoth large and sma11, have been ;n evidence in numbers and the beach has been one of the most popular resorts for excursions of this type of anv located on the north shore. On Ttiesday· of this week, employees of the \Vestern F..lectric company of the Hawthorne plant held a picnic, the attendance totaling over 100 people. On Thursday the employees in the manufa'C'turing . division of the same com pany, totaling over a thousand men and v;omen. held their annual outing. Other parties of fewer participants 'n·re also held. · The rafts have been moved out farther in the lake in order to provide deeper water for diving purposes. The first one now rides at anchor in 9 feet of water and the other in 12 feet. Two extra sections of life lines have also been installed under the direction of Beachmaster Joyce Smith and prO\· ide a greater protected swimming area. Five hundred clothing bags, such as have been used by the Edgewater Reach hotel for a number of years, ha,·e been purchased and are being tried out this season. The bags are mad e so as to permit clothing to be hung up to prevent wrinkling and are provided with pockets for shoes, hats and other such apparel. They are use d in the regular checking system whi-ch has alway s been a part of the beach's facilities. Record attendance has been recorded during the first of this week, 1,654 people having registered on Tue sday <tnrl 1,150 on Monday. Tuesday's attendance was the second largest for. this season, . something over 1,700 people ha,·ing used the beach on one other da y. Due to bad weather the beach remained closed on Tuesday, \Vednesday and ~riday of last week. On each of the other davs, howen·r. a fair numher of people ·were in the \\'ater. Dr. and Mrs. D. M. Gallic of 1115 Elmwood avenue are leaving today on a motor trip through the north woods and Canada, to be gone until September 1. They wilJ spend the week-end as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. George j vVhite of 1101 Greenwood avenue at Eagle River, Wis., and wilt go from there to Sault St. Marie, where they will take the boat for Port MacNichol, Ontario, Dr. and Mrs. Gallie will then motor through Ontario, stopping in Toronto and Ottawa, and will return home hy way of Detroit, where they will visit Mrs. Gallic's brother for t\\'O or· three days.
