Our Compliments The officers and directors of "Your Hotne Bank" join in extending their compliments I. to ·CASTING IACIIIPIS TURN OUT SUPPLY OF "AD" TYPE T.- .......,_ HeW TYPE OF ALL SIZES T rr ... I __ HE Lloyd Hollister Inc., composing room is equipped with two Ludlow Typograph machines, and these make possible the big volume of advertising composition. The Ludlow equipment, in addition to the casting machines, is c om p o s e d of steel cabinets with drawers in each cabinet. Each drawer holds a font of type, ranging in size from 12 to 72 point. The larger type used in advertisements, which ranges between the minimum and the maximum sizes provided in the Lucllow equipment, is thus cast entirely by the machines. The big feature of the machine lies in its ability to furnish an unlimited quantity of new type. The line of type is cast from brass letter molds in the Ludlow machine. Since there is no w~r on the b~ss letter molds. from ~hich the .type 1s cast, they last andefiaately. . One of the Important features of the Ludlow is its labor saving. No longer is it necessary to hand-set and distribute type as in the old days, for the machine eliminates all this by its rapid-fire casting. The Ludlow machines are made of anusuaUy strong material and there is practically no upkeep cost. They are simple in operation and have proved their worth in the publication of W11r 111'1"1'1 Ltn. When Lloyd Hollister Inc., grew into its new building it was found necessary to install much new equipment in the composing room and in order to do so the purchasing agent went to the "department store for composing rooms," which in other words means the American Type Founders company. There he found the new equipment which has found position in the new plant. The American Type Founders company is a big institution which furnishes equipment to plants all over the country. The factory is in Jersey City, the middle western branch being iri Chicago: DO YOU KNOWThat 4,200 pounds of magazine black ink were used in the Lloyd Hollister Inc., press rooms for general news printing during 1927? This is an average consumption of 350 pounds monthly. The ink consumption for 1928 will pass that mark by a considerable figure with the new plant providing for work on a much larger scale than last year. DOYOUKNOWThat Edgar Ovat Blake,. architect, who designed the Hollister Inc., building, also designed the Laurel school building in Wilmette? MT. Blake was formerly a resident of Wilmette and now makes his home in Evanston. DO YOU KNOW. That the new Hollister Inc., building is a "one-piece" concrete job, making it monolithic? That the structure is of the Tudor style of architecture which dates back to the Elizabethan Era? That this is the style of architecture most generally employed for schools, libraries and publishing We admire the spirit of integrity and progress that has tnade your new printing and publishing plant possible Accept our sincere best wishes for continued success · and prospenty The LOWEST INSURANCE RATE The new Lloyd Hollister Inc., printing plant, because of its fireproof construction, has the benefit of the lowest building insurance rate of any commercial structure in Wilmette, if not on · the entire north shore, according to D. E. Allen, Jr., north shore insurance broker. DO YOU KNOWThat 281 tons of magazine paper were fed into the Miehle presses of l,loyd Hollister Inc., in 1927? This represents 562,243 pounds of stock, as it is· termed in printers' parlance. This figure will b.e more than doubled in 1928 with t~e great enlargement of press facilities in the new Hollister plant.
