According to the report published in the National Associatir"l News Semee for February 7 and based on a suney of farm conditions in seventytwo states, the farm land situation shows a decided improYement both in acreage sold and prices paid. More farm lands were sold in· 1927 than in 1926. A comparison of values in many communities shows that present prices are above the pre-war level. The Chicago Daily News on February 2 stated that a farm in Urbana, lll~~ois, sold at $170 an acre. The ' farmers themselves are most optimistic over the present favorable situation. The number of foreclosures during 1CJ27 has decreased decidedly as compared with 1926. The general ~rend of prices is unquestionably upward and it is interesting. to note that farms are being purchased by persons either ;ts business enterprises or as homes, which indicates stability in the future. The Association further has taken action recommendiog to city officials throughout America that there be appointed on every city plan or regional plan commission at least one person with practical real estate ex· perience_ a member of the real estate board of his community, preferably one with experience in the creation of subdivisions. and that, if possible, a second Realtor, one with an experienced knowledge of central business properties in the city, be added. The Association further urges every local real estate board within its membership to concern itself with the city plan · o f its community through a special board committee on city planning. ·u-.... Committee Will Report on Model Enabling Act July 18 Study of the model enabling act for city ·nd regional planning prepared by a committee appointed by Herbert Hoover and sponsored by the Department of Commerce has been referred to a joint committee of the Association's city plan committee and its Home Builders and Subdividers Division. A report on the model act wll be made at the coming annual convention of the Association, to meet in Louisville, Kentucky, the week of June 18. Notable progress made in the year just passed in the building of efficient cities through city and regional planning is reported by the Association. North Shore R. E. Board Announces Five Events Robert L. Wyatt, chairman of the program committee of the North Shore Real Estate board, announces that the board's 1928 program will include five major events as follows: A Bankers' Day on March 29; Builders' Day on May 31 ; Reciprocity Day on September Zl when the board will entertain members of neighboring boards and officials of the state and national associations ; Municipality Day on Dec. 1 and the Annual Banquet on Dec. 13.
