The final contest wtll be held at 2 o'clock next Thursday afternoon at Wilmette beach. Each playground will be represented by six children, three juniors and three seniors, who were to be selected today in the local contests at the variou~ playgrounds. In the final contest each child will originate, design, and build his own project and the judging will be according to skill, neatness, and likeness to the object drawn. Besides the sand modeling contest, tryouts will be made next week_ and . practice given in the Athletic Badge tests which will be held August 1 at the Village Green at 1 :30 o'clock. The Athletic Badge tests are originated by the Playground and Recreation Board of America and are designed to test the child in chinning the bar, jumping, running, and throwing. There are three tests, graduating in difficulty. For passing th_e first test the child will be awarded a bronze pin with a single star; for pas5ing the second he gets a pin with two stars; and a so_ec~ally designed pin depicting an all round athlete is awarded to the child passing the thirg test. A certificate is also given to each child a3 he pass_ es }:lis test. Daniel M. Davis, director of recreation, will personally supervi se the fi" nal tests and all the tests will be given by assistants on the recreation staff. Con~reola work, including making of picture frames, flower holders, boxes, doll3 and other articles, will form the handicraft for the week and work will also be continued on the basket weaving started this week. Local .contests in iackstones will be on the program ~ nd a practice period will be held each dav for the Village -wide jackstone contest to be held on the following week. A verv pleasant addition to the prog-ram for the week wilt he in 5tore for the two playgrounds winning first and second places in the membership drive which closes tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock. A party with refreshments furnished by the recreation board will be given in honor of the winning playgrounds. The first place winners will have ice cream cone refreshments and the second place winners w1ll have lollipops for refreshments. Director Davis expects to increase the membership on the four playgrounds by several hundred durinP' the contest and announces that alreaclv more than a hundred children have enrollerl at the grounds a~ result of the first few days' contest.
