Dick Huck is captain of the Vattman park team. The players are David !lass, catcher ; Howard Ball, pitcher; Dick Huck, first baseman; Howard Bond, second baseman; Jack Stewart, third baseman; Walter Foslund, lef.t fielder ; Billy Wade, center field; George Reinhart, right field. David Hass, who was playing catcher for Vattman, made a run in the third inning and in the fourth im&ing. Dick Huck, the captain, who played first base, made a run in the seventh inning. Jack Stewart, who played third base, made a run in the fourth inning. Billy Wade, who played center field, ~pade a run in the fourth inning. George Reinhart, who plays right field, made a run in the sixth inning. Vattman park made six runs in seven innings. · For the Laurel team Bill Melchior played catcher; Colin Finlayson, third 6aseman; Charles Broad, short stop; Walter von Reinsperg, center field; Jack Allworth, who is the captain, played right field; John Hawley, right short stop. Bill Melchior, our catcher, made a run in the first inning. Frank Hooper, our second baseman, made a run in the fourth inning, which made the score 6 to 2 in Vattman's favor. Village Green Children Put On Clever Parade The children of the Village Green playground put on a clever parade 'thursday afternoon, marching in costume from the Village Green to Washington avenue, east to Fifteenth street, past Vattman park to Lake avenue, west on Lake to Ridge, and back to the playground. There were costumes of every sort, ho,!h funny and pretty, from Simple Simon to flower girls. We have good times ~n the playgrounds with our games, stories, and handwork. The girls have made pot holders and doll clothes, while the boys have made string hammocks. We all are making scrap books. Gertrude Goelz, Village Green Edith Brandt Takes First in Vattman's Dressed Doll Show Friday afternoon we had a doll show at the Vattman park at 2 o'cloc~ .. _The dolls were diyided into h~o dtvtsto'!s, the Juniors and the ·? emors. Mtss Hel~n Smith acted as JUdge. For the senior doll she picked Edith Brandt's for first, Geraldine Hoffman's doll, second, and Lucille Hoffman's doll third. Edith dressed a spoon doll, whi~h was very attractive. Geraldine dressed an omon doU and Lucille made a stocking doll and dressed it. In the Senior division Kathlyn Holway got honorable mention. In the Junior di,·ision Dorot~y.Davi_s' doll got first prize and Maqone Htll got second prize and Betty Todd got third prize. Dorothy's doll was made of a flower. Her doll was very original and attract;.ve. Marjorie's doll was a ·rag doll with hair JT!ade of yarn and it had a plaited skirt on. Betty Todd had a pair of yarn dolls. Barbara Hoiway, age 3, got honorable mention for the Juniors. She took a hard boiled egg and painted it to represent Humpty Dumpty. Vve had manv attractive dolls, such as yarn, vegetables, flowers, paper, fruit, and rag dolls. \Ve all had lots of fun. They were 'fery late in coming and we thought the game would be forfeited to us, but they finally arrived and we had a fine PIJ!e, the score being 5 to 10 in our fat or. Soore Exciting Laurel Kickball Game A very exciting game of kick ball was played by the girls of the Laurel and Village· Green playgrounds at Laurel, Saturday, July 7. Vivian Miller and Virginia Anderson each made three points, the most being made by the Village Green. Else von Reinsperg and Theophila Sko~p each made five points, the most made by the Laurel team. The weather was very warm but we all enjoyed the game. I went in four races and won three prizes. The first race was for boys 12 to 17. That was hard because there were older boys to run against but the next three races were for my age. In those I won prizes. Some people think it is hard to go to summer ·school but it isn't because we play games at recess and we have lots of fun in the work we do. \Ve have home work but if vou listen to what the teacher sa vs during the ~chool it isn't at all hard.
