This big event of golfdom has been awarded this year by the Western Golf association to the North Shore Golf club which is located on Glenview road near Waukegan road. It is the twenty-eighth Western Open and the history of the event makes it certain that the contest for the title this year will result in some sparkling battles as the entry list im;ludes many great players. The Western Open is an all medal play tourney. Play is to start next Wednesday when eighteen holes will be played. The event is to last four days and ~hteen holes witt be p.l ayed each dav until the final on Saturday which will be over the thirty-six hole route. Hagen Defending Champion Walter Hagen, the famous Easterner, is defending his title which he won last year. Hagen is playing wonderful golf this year as is indicated by the fact that he -wpn the British Open championship from a great field, defeajing among others that sterling American player Gene Sarazen and the champion of Great Britain, Archie Compson. But Hagen is certain to find it difficult to retain his honors for that noted New Yorker Bobby Farrell, who demonstrated his prowess onlv a couple of months ago by winning from the famous Bobby Jones of Atlanta. witt be "out there" at North Shore doing his stuff as few golfers know how to do it.
