November 2, 1928 WILMETTE .LIFE 11 0 The Department Americanization chairman adds her voice to those who are urging the women of the nation to express , themselves at the polls Tuesd~y-a privilege which women won only after a long struggle. The f:egion anq its Auxiliary, as organizatiOns, take no part in politics, excepting that which accords with good citizenship; so classed is this interest in every woman exercizing the power of the elective fran~hise-America's greatest gift to her citizens. There is no truly representative government unless there is a full expression of indi,·idual opinion at the polls. Judging from enthusiastic reports 011 the October party given · by Post no. 46 and its auxiliary for the two hundred veterans at Great Lakes, these parties are destined to a gradual increase in popularity. Everyone who goes needs no urging to go again. Here they can see the happy result of such service work. To Mrs. W. E. Richmond and Dr. \V. W. Hawkins and their committees the organizations are indebted for the splendid success of the affair. Mrs. Richmond showed her fitness for her office by planning "eats" different enough to be a treat to the men, and by g-iving, in an ingenious manner, that kept interes.t at high tide, a favor to each man. Dr. Hawkins kept the entertainment ball rolling with the talent that had been welt chosen by his committee. Mrs. Hopp, rehabilitation chairman, announces the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month are the dates for special day visits to the ward at Great Lakes, although visits need not, and should not, be restricted to these days. The men look for the Wilmette delegation on these days, however. Woman who can avail themselves of the pleasures of knowing the men in ward 16 should make arrangements with Mrs. Hopp for the trip on these ' days. Minnesota is the most musical state in the unipn and Minneapolis is the most musical city, if one may judge from contests at the recent national auxiliarv convention at San Antonio! The Mi nneapolis Glee . club won the Wallridge silver trophy and the quartette captured the $100 first prize. The Glee club won popular approval in two songs especially written for the occasion-one in honor of Commander Spafford, and one in praise of the city. The girls wore peach colored uniforms when singing, and green dresses in the parade, which would seem a little contrary to the nationality commonly associated with that state. One chap is reported to have said, while the girls passed in the hig parade, "Look at all the pretty Irish girls from Minnesota." _ o.. --'oc:==:~oze::::r-oc:===-o,·ellllllllil.reo==:s 616 DAVIS STREET, BVAMSTOM !!At We sell only 0 the Finest Quality at the Lowest 0 Prices.
