November 16, 1928 WILMETTE LIFE ·u Dr. Arthur J. Todd, Hardin Van Deu·rsen Delight "Neighbors" The Neighbors met on Tuesday of This week and heard a very fine talk delivered by Dr. Arthur J. Todd, professor of Sociology at Northwestern university, and two groups of songs by Hardin Van Deursen. Professor Todd speaks with fluent ease and with authority and his subject about 11 Some Modern Social Problems" was most interesting. The program was sponsored by the philanthropy department of the club. Mrs. Gilbert Kelly, chairman. Mr. Van Deursen, who was born in Kenilworth, and who is now attending Northwestern, is a young singer with great charm and beauty of voice. One of his listeners, a woman of musical talent and education, well able to judge, said of his singing, "He has penonality, he has an exquisite voice, he has a fi~ mind and with all, a soul." This commendation speaks for itself and is evidence of the possibilities he has for the future of his work. On November 22, the music department will hold its second meeting at 10:15 o'clock, at the home of Mrs. Lorenzo Dilks, 227 Sheridan road. Mrs. Charles D. Howe will give a paper on "11 usic of the First Half of the Nineteenth Century." ores 616 Davis Street Evaastoll Ora&~es VA.LBMCL\S Luaeat Size Rea. $1.15 doz. Mrs. MacClintock reviewed the two volume work of Jacob Wasserman , "The World's Illusion." It was a most interesting program and those "·ho have known Mrs. MacClintock for many years feel that she is even more fascinating in her lecture talks this winter than ever before. She took up the analization of the various symbolic characters in the noYcl and brought out the beauties of the style ·used and the strength and breadth of ideas which Wasserman has given in this powerful work. There were about twenty-five member s present. The next meeting will occur next Wednesday at 2 o'clock, at the home of Mrs. E. D. Snydacker on Chestnut avenue.
