Virginia McConnell, of grade SA at the Howard school, is winner of the American Legion Auxiliary essay contest on the subject "What the Flag Means to Me." She will represent her school in the flag p·r esentation ceremonies which are to occur as soon as the flag to be g~v.en to t~e school by the Legion Auxthary arnves. Tuesday, November 20, is the. date tentatively set for the ceremontes. Virginia McConnell's essay was adjudged the best of several submitted by seventh and eighth grade students of the Howard school on the meaning of the American flag. The judges were Dr. W. W. Hawkins, former. COll_lmander of the American Leg10n m \Vilmette, Dr. Beatrice .Hawkins, Mrs. Cochran and Mrs. Arthur Johnson, presidt1nt of the auxiliary.
