Portraying vividly the terrors of the sun-baked sands of the desert, John Gilbert's latest Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer picture, \Yith synchronized score and sound effects, wi11 be at the Teatro Sunday and Monday, April 28 and 29. Mary Nolan and Erne'st Torrence appear in prominent supporting roles. The story, which opens in the grim and death-invested regions of South Africa, is based on the sensational and daring robbery of a diamond mine. .. Pathe starring feature, "The Shady 'Lady," which comes to the Teatro del Lago Tuesday and Wednesday, April 30 and May 1. Havana is the locale of the story. Robert Armstrong plays opposite Mis's Haver as a carefree American soldier of fortune who bec~mes embroiled in the operations of W olheim, master mind of a band of gun runners. "Redskin," the new Richard Dix epic of the West, will open a three day engagement at the Teatro Thursday, May 2: Beautiful scenic backgrounds are revealed in all their true color and heauty in this unusual film. The hilh and valleys of the Indian country are reproduced for the screen just as the eye sees them in nature, and the powerfully gripping story, true to Indian traditions and custom s, unfold'.; in this na tive setting. Gladys Belmont plays the part of the Indian maiden, with whom Dix falls in love. leading players are Charles "Buddy" Rogers and Nancy Carroll, (which, in itself, is a recommendation for any picture.) The story told is of a boy who is a born band leader. He wants to get ahead, but is held back by fell circumstance until a girl who has struggled through the same brand of hard times he's b~cking, and has landed on on top, reaches out and gives him a hand. "\Vedding Bells" is to be the Norshore stage show for the . coming week, with At Kvale and the Jazz Collegians featured. MORE NEWS OF THE THEATER ON PAGE 68 "Clear the D.ecks," with . Reginald Denny in the leadi.ng role, will be presented at the Varsity theater in Evanston this Saturday, April 7. Mis~aken identity plays an important part tn the outcome of the plot. Denny plays an obliging fellow who takes a health cruise to save his pal from being disinherited. Complications set in with the nurse hired for the invalid, an irrelevant necklace, and love at first sight. Pauline Frederick, who has been playing for many weeks at the Cort theater, Chicago, in "The Scarlet Woman," will be seen and heard on the Varsity screen in "On Trial" Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, April 29 and 30 and May 1. The picture, "On Trial," is from the play by Elmer Rice. The important role of the little daughter is taken by Vondell Darr. Lois Wilson has a number of important scenes in the closing reels. Bert Lytell plays the part of her husband. Richard Tuck_er, as the prosecuting attorney, and 1ason Robards, as the attorney for the defense, make their parts sta,ld out pleasingly. "The Dummy," with Ruth Chatterton, Frederic March, Richard Tucker, and others. is to be the Varsity offering for Thursday and Friday, May 2 and 3. This film is a melodramatic account of how the kidnapers of a poor little rich girl were tracked to th~ir lairs through the acumen of a smart grownup detectivr, whose assisting genius was none other than a rem!;lrkably fortunate little boy who wanted to be a detective and whose prayers were answered when he was yet young.
