Frosh ·M arion Tubbs, speaking on "Immigration and Humanity," won the New. Trier High school freshman oratorical contest, the finals of which were held Tuesday of this week. Defrees Holmes, with an oration on "The American Constitution in Eve,r yday Life" was se cond. The two other contestants in the ...., finals of the Freshman oratory meet were Clara Orvis and Margaret Cobb. Three other students. Henrietta Vana, Donald Cardy, and ~lien Sager were · eliminated in the preliminaries Friday of last week. The contest was under the direction of Rol~nd Wehr 1 of the New Trier history department, who has been coaching the freshman speakers. It \\·as the first freshman oratorical contest held at New Trier. The . plan is to train New Trier students early for participation 111 interscolastic oratorical events. Judges of the contest · were : Dr. Laura Ullrick, he'a d of the ~ocial science department at the high school, Mrs. Janet S. Gordon, a member of the New Trier Board of Education, and Alfred Romig, New Trier's repre sentative in the Chicago Daily News oratorical co.n test this year. Miss Anne L.
