Basketeers Engaged Make Vacation Days Their Busy Season .____~ '{ New Trier High school basketball players have been spending much of their vacation spell practicing at the Leslie F. Gates gymnasium. Following their double victory over Oak Park in the first Suburban league engagement December 20, the Gray and Green players rested until the day after Christmas and have been practicing daily since that time, with the exception oi Sunday and New Year's day. Tv.-o practice games were played with the alumni, resulting in one victory for thr alumni and one for the high school. On Friday, December 27, the high school first team trimmed an alumni team 34 to 22. Coach Grater used no substitutes in this game. Monday of this week, however, the alumni won 22 to 17, whe·n Coach Grater sent in a number of substitutes. Among the New Trier alumni who played in the two practice games with the · high school teams were: Fred Herber~ a member of the New Trier team three years ago who is now playing with the Carleton college team; Tony Copeland, heavyweight captain at New Trier three years ago; John Sheldon, New Trier's heavyweight captain two years ago, who is now at Dartmouth; John Borncamp, now attending ~orthwestern; Benny . Richards and Bob MacLean, members of the first string freshmen team at Lake Forest college; Billy Reed, who i~ on the freshman squad at Purdue; George Saxton, last year's lightweight captain at New Trier; Morris Nelson, last year's heavyweight captain at New Trier; Joe Paletti, golf pro, ,.,.ho ·played with New Trier three years ago, and John Whitacker, now attending Northwestern university. Henry Hart and Chester Thorsen, members of the New Trier lightweight team two vears ago, and Robert ~ord, also shov.~ed up fo; practice with the high school players l\;orth shore basketball fans wer..: centering their attention this week on the New Trier-Evanston double-header scheduled for this Friday night on the New Trier court. Axel G. Pearson, minister of the Immanuel Methodist church, Evanston, gave a New Year's message at a joint luncheon of the Wilmette Optimist and. Rotary clubs Tuesday of this week. The Rotarians, whose customary Wednesday luncheon was omitted this \veek because of the holiday, were guests at the regular Optimist luncheon. Mr. and Mrs. Henry G. Prosser of 803 Lake avenue.
