18 WILMETTE LIFE February 14. 193() City Market. Co. Wholesale MEATS Retail 627 MAIN ST. Carl W. Engdahl Is Named Modernizing Bureau Head The executive committee of the North Shore Modernizing bureau, Evanston, which is affiliated with the National Home Modernizing Movement, announces the appointment of Carl \V. Engdahl as secretary-manager. The offices of the North Shore .Modernizing bureau report an ever increasing interest shown by progressive home owners of the north shore in the modernizing movement. A situati'on exists on the north shore which is unlike anything in the middle west, it is pointed out. There is only one north shore, and the territory included in this classification is limited to a comparatively small area. This has resulted in an increase in land values which has far out grown the value of many of the homes situated thereon. Tearing down these fine homes is out of the question so modernizing is the only solution, the organization contends. Many north shore firms are affiliated with the Modern!zing . Bureau . Christian Science Churches "Spirit" was the 'subject of the lesson-sermon in all Churches of ·Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, February 9. The golden text was, "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, sa;th the Lord of hosts" (Zachariah 4 :6). Among the citations ·which comprised the lesson-sermon was the followi'lg from the Bible: "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God" (Matthew 5 :8). The les~n-sermon also included the following 'passages from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health \·:!th Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Paker Eddy: "The baptism of Spi:it, ".- ashing the body of all the impurities of flesh signifies that the pure in l'eart see God and are approaching :'piritual Life and its demonstration" ( p. 241). ~'lfiss Ruth Page, Clarence Loomis to Give Concert Phone: Wilmette 18 70 When Miss Ruth Page, noted and gifted dancer, and Clarence Loomis, composer of the opera, "Yolanda of Cyprus" appear in a concert Friday evening, February 21, at Skokie school, under the auspices of the Nursery school board of the Winnetka Woman's club as a benfit for the Nursery school, they will give the following program. 1.
