The burglary of the residence of Rev. H. H. Thoren a week ago Sun- day evening was a more serious af- fair than we had supposed. Not only did they break into the house and steal what money they found, some ten dollars or so, but they took Mrs. Thoren’s silverware, any articles of clothing they wanted, a few checks from Mr. Thorvn. which were on his desk, and everything they couldiuw, which they found. Then added to this, which was bad enough, theyde- stroyed some letters he had written and went from cellar to attic. break- ing into evury closet and drawer, pulling out and destroying so far as they could. everything they did not care ,to take away. In fact it was not only u high- handed burglary, but a most inali. cious one, worse than foreign inva- sion by an armed force. It don't look exactly like the work of pro fessionulcity burglars after booty, though they took all of that they could find, but the chief thing seems to have been a fiendish, malicious purpose to injure Mr. Thoren and his family by tlte destruution of his Valuables. It was one of the lowest. vilest and meanest things we have known in this city for ’a long time. Moreover, the innocent will suffer in thin case while the guilty will es- cape. We wish to add, for the hen (-{it or caution of people similarly situated. that the tllieve; got into the house by climbing a tree upon the. porch roof and then crept through a window into on? of the ('llHIIIlMél‘h.
