A GOOD OFFICIAL The editor of the NEWS has as good an opportunity as any one perhaps to know his real worth to the city and to the general public. Without saying one Word deroga- tory to the personal character on, official conduct of any previous city marshal, we want to say, the present incumbent, Simon Leesch, is an excellent officer. His per- sonal character is in every way above and beyond reproach. He is honest, capable, truthful," level- headed, cool tempered, not foul mouthed or profane in his lan- guage, courteous, Now when you put all thosequalities into ayoung man in an official position, one with whom one in our position is obliged to come in daily contact, it means a good deal. ~ A foul mouthed man we detest above all others, while profanity in a public official is Without excuse. Not only does Mr. Leesch pos- sess our confidence, but he hils that of the public. \thn he slwaks men holieve him; if he asks for credit he gets it. So of all parts of buildings and grounds that come under his supervision. He had a good mother and has 11 good wifmthough we nvvor saw either. But what pleases us as much as anything about him is his pains- taking study ofthe ordinanees per- taining to his duties and his wider study of the police service of a city in these times, so that he is becoming quite an expert in his knowledge of thesethings. Henee while he is a good, capableand re- liable marshal today. he has the promise. the ability and the mak- ing of a many fold better one in the future. and We wish in closing to ('ongratulate Mayor Evans on his appointment. We have, been asked by some of our citizens about the marshal and the abon is our answer to those and all others. THE HIGHLAND PARK NEWS.
