Continuous electric service is a necessity in a community the size of Downers Grove. Extension of the service should be made [or all con- sumers who desire service. A well run electric light plant is an absolute necessity in every town of (his size at the present time. ‘3. Who!) the proceeds of these bonds have been expended in the station, tin- \'illage will nm then have sulm'ium ‘zunwlty Io furnish energy to indus- tries which “'0 an- anxious to hun- luvale in this town. and unless such industries can purchase power in such amounts as they require they will l0~ (-alo their plants in other towns served by publlc service companies. let. it is proposed to spend the proceeds of $18,"U0.00 of bonds inside the walls of the station, leaving no funds with which to'rehabilitate the distribution system. it is a well known fact that this distribution system is in an unsafe condition and that it would cost $10,000.00 to put this system in a safe. operating condition. Series street lighting circuits are operated at a high voltage and in case these wires are down and people come in contact with them it means that a serious injury will result. and possibly death. There is no question but what the village would be legally liable [or such dam- age, which might amount to $10,000 in a single case. In connection with the proposed bond Issue by the Vlllage at Downers Grove for the. rehabilitation of Its electric light plant, a few suggestions and ï¬gures are herewith presented tor the respectful and careful considera- tion by’all ol the voters and cltlzehs or Downers Grove. We must ronslder that our village ls going to grow greatly In the next thirty years. and the growth of use: ‘Yor electricity will be marvelous. Look back over the last thirty years and see the great strides It has made. and then contemplate the development In the next thlrty. Who should get the bene- ï¬t of this, the taxpayers or a public service corporation? It the village, then. Mr. Voter. I believe lt la our duty and privilege to vote for the bond Issue thls Saturday, October 18. Should 820.000 be paid for our (ran- chine. 310.000 of this would pay (or the lines (tunable property) that would be turned over to n mime service corporation. This would leave 310,000 for the privilege of doing business, which would be a bargain for some one. Let us not rob Peter to pay Pull. At the end of thirty years could the village buy back the line system alone for 320.000? I think not. if we did buy it back there would then he a heavy bond issue. One thing s good many of our citiâ€" sens would like to see is ornamental street lights on our msln street. in keeping with our plsce among its neighboring towns of L- Grunge. Hint dsle. Nspervms. etc. This would wob- shiy not he curried through shosid we sell our plant. OIr public service corporation made ss estimted cost at shat $4.500 u- ‘susi chsrgs for lighting our streets snd public places with the present number of lights. The village. through tsxntion. now only snows $2,200 for this service. thus making $2,300 extra snnusl tn that would have to be levied. This one saving alone in a few years would pay for all the proposed new equipment.
