St. John's Ave-es. Every citizen will be glad to know that the prospect for en esrly im- provement of that street brightens. The council met Tuesday evening to act on the matter, but the conference committee asked tor more time. Al- dermen Chmpitt was in New York, but Mr. Stuhbs, the chairmen, ssid they land msde good progress and he thought they were in s [sir wsy to reach a sstislsctory agreement if they could have s littlefmore time to meet with the property owners to discuss and strange some detsils. Aldermen Van Riper confirmed Mr. Stnbbs’ statements and sold also that a satisfactory conclusion would be reached and s ‘ favorable report be made; one which would of course be acceptable to the property owners and the public agenerally newell as as to ,the council. This will result in the matter being taken out of the murts so that the street cant be paved early in the spring. 001. Davidson corroborated the remarks of Messrs. Stubbs and Van Riper. who have performed such careful, painstaking work. Of oeuree we are not wholly out of the woods, ~but there is light and we can 99.5 out. Some one asked a series of quee» tions last week about the Young Men’s Club House, the Public Li- brary, etc., which we proposed to answer this week. But we find it a bigger job than we anticipated. Some people talk as. though there was “boodle” about it somewhere, or it maybe a “nigger in the fence.” Now, as we propose- to tell the truth and only the truth, all of it thuttwe can get half of, please give us an extension of time and we will inves4 tigate carefully and thoroughly and giye the public the results as We find ' them “boodle” or no “boodle,” and ’ irreepectiveof w-hoee“eullud puseon” is entangled in that barbed wire fence; Glad you.
