Winter is comingâ€"- - Hundreds of detectives employed by the Wabash, Missouri Pacific and Frisco railroads have been engaged for‘the past two weeks in seeking the perpetrators of an alleged plot to wreck the train bearing Miss Helen Gould and party on her western trip. Discovery of the details of the sensa- tional conspiracy was made following the departure otvMiss Gould eastward. Miss Gould arrived with her party in St. Louis on October '15. Fear of the chief special agent of the Missouri Pacific,~ E. O. Eames, was aroused when he received reports that three heavily armed men had come down the river in a skirt. They repelled the approach of railroad detectives. About the same time reports, of the mmr'cments of the men came to Special Agent Samuel E. Allender of the Frisco, railroad. The‘ detectives conferred. The tracks of the Wabash railroad, over which Miss Gould» was to come in a few hOurs, were heavily guarded. When the Missouri Pacific train bearing -Miss Gould andher party left for Jonesboro, Ark, a pilot engine was sent ahead to guard against possible eflmts to wreck the train. Agent Eames admitted the dis- covery of the azmed men, but- de- clined to discuss'the connection of this with the extra precautions taken to protect Miss Gould on her trip.
