Fessenden read a paper on Marv Washington. She related how in the 'early history of the South- ern Colony of America. there came many of the younger sons of the nobility of England to whom had been given grants of land and among them in 1650. William Ball. who settled in Virginia. his estate being known as Epping Forest. She told of his family and of the daughter Mollie. givrng a glimpse of the life of the young girl of nineteen and the many visits to gay Williamsburg and how upon the death of her father and mother she went to live with her brother Joseph who had returned to England and married, and how later it was her fate to marry Augustine Washington, who was a widower with seven children. After this came the wonderful home life on theires- tate in Virginia with her own family. Then how. when George was but twelve years of age and upon the death of her husband she took up the management of the estate and the truly competent way in which she managed it. the wonderful store room which she cared for and of which she always carried the key. of the famous Tarizie pudding made in those days by Mary Washington. She went on further to tell of her intellectual and so- cial trainingol the books she enjoyed. the English Prayer book heading the list and the classics following, and of her musical accoinplisliments. Then came the in tluente of her hip upon her children and mum tlum- mound her; of her struggle ' l' “in: H‘h her favorite son and Lit in»: ll r 'uu! itifni tribute paid her by Kili,‘ t a m- ‘ie-r: ilt' told l‘lt'l‘ that from in ‘l . Miss Harding has appeared a number of times on the programs in past years and won popularity here with her interpretive reading of "A Mar. Without a Country," and ”Enoch Arden", as well as other excellent selections. Nu moving pictures will be given this Week owi.-‘.g to the fact that the Episcopal bazaar is being held on Friday and Saturday. A rehearsal for the "Southern Musical Party" will be held next Monday, Novem- ber twenty-fifth at eight o‘clock in the evening. Mrs. Schaufiler makes a special request that the members of the cast will be at the club house as near the hour as pessible. The cotillon to be held on November twenty- seventh. Thanksgiving Eve is to be one of the most elaborate affairs of the season and will be lead by Mr. Alvar Bournique whose leadership alone will do much towards the success of the party. The directors are expecting a good at- tendance, Many dinners will as usual precede the dance. ()n Friday evening. November twenty‘ ninth. the moving pictures will include another of the l’athe series of topical subjects gning Current Event scenes taken in all parts of the world. The appreciation of those who witnessed the Fireman's Parade and Water Carnival in the pictures of November fifteenth, was shown in a number of requests re ceived asking for a repetition of the filmt Arrangements are being made that the club may have this film later invthe sea- son; The Dog Show. Fireman's Parade and the Polo Game being especially ap- preciated‘ Attention is drawn to the December program now being designed in the shape of a calendar with an eyelet. The en- tertainment committee requests this be hung in a prominent place in the homes of members. The increasing numbers of motor and electric machines among our members has been under the careful consideration of the directors in view of giving them more parking space. During the past week considerable work has been done in the hope of relieving the congested situation that has taken place on several occasions recently. The sharp curve at the south end of the auditorium has been greatly improved. The space at the side of the ballroom and also in the rear has been graded in order that a number of gas cars may be accomodated. Thm having electrics will find ample space for placing their cars opposite the main env trance, on the circular driveway. At night this will be marked by a red and white light. Owners of electrics are cautioned against venturing on the lawns as owing to the weight of the cars con- siderable difficulty has several times been experienced by the sinking in the soft ground. Two men will be stationed in the grounds to regulate the traffic and the directors ask the cmperation of members in the hope of minimizing the recent difficulties. If all the cars will come in from Lake Place and leave by Central Avenue it will be a very great assistance. The Billiard Committee would be vcry glad if members interested in the tourna ment will kindly leave ‘their names at the club house at their earliest con- venience.
