The mayor has been im- ponuned many times since he took me oath of office to take steps to- nrds the {rection of a Highland Puk Hospital. but as yet he has nev- or been Willing to entertain the idea for he consfizlered that the time was not a propitious one on account of business depression; nevertheless he fully realized the benefits to be de- rived by having a hospital where sur~ (ital and other cases without the risk of life caused by delay, shock, the in- conveniences and danger of trans- portation. So much pressure, how- ever, has been brought to bear during the last few weeks, with some good financial backing, that Mayor Hast- ings has felt that he would not be doing his duty if he continued to re~ fuse to take steps in this matter. It seems almost childish to give good reasons for the need of a good hos- pital. In the first place, we live in a city of over 5000 inhabitants, with flourishing and growing villages in our vicinity.
