The car waa traveling at high speed, witneaaea aaid. when it struck the curve in the track at Wilmette Avenue. Without warning it turned over and before the petun- gers could make their escape it had caught fire and imperiled the live- of the passengers caught in the trap. 1Many persons were attracted to the accident by the crash 0! the ear and the scream of the passengers who had been bruised or burned. The Highland Park people in the accident were: Mrs. James Kidd, a maid in the Fredric Ullmann home, who was burned about the body, more seriously on her left hand than any other part of her body. She is imw proving. Robert Bother, the con- ductor, who received cuts in the head and hands, will be back at his work in a Week. Oscar Oppenheimer, the motorman, was thrown on his head and received spinal injuries. He in getting along nicely. Miss Elizabeth lWio of 1540 Dean Avenue. Ravinia, lescaped without injury, but Miu iTillie Leno of 1616 Dean Avenue, was ’injured about her back and will be unable to be about for several weeks. Mrs. Olson and tiny son of Ravinia, were in the accident but escaped un- lhurt. i Justice of the Peace E. P. Dunshee lof Wilmette Saturday dismissed the icharge of criminal carelessness iagainst the motorman Oscar Oppen- theimer. Oppenheimer testified that i‘the air brakes failed to work when ihe attempted to slow down for the 'curve on which the car was wrecked. Oppenheimer is quite well known ‘here and always i136 been regarded as one of the most careful motormen on ithe road. For this reason his friends are firm in the belief that the acci- ident happened from a cause beyond P:the control of the motorman. The K:‘that has happened on the Chicago and 1 Milwaukee electric railroad in years l 'EWhile similar acctdents are more or; !‘less common on steam railroads they i . , liare rare on the local electric line.
