There are many community activi- ties in our city now seeking expres- sion. There is a great need of boys' clubs and girls' clubs. There is a great need of the continuance of the com- munity dances, in order that the young men of Highland Park may be given suitable and wholesome enter~ tainment, and an opportunity of meet- ing the girls on the proper basis and under proper circumstances. A cen- tral meeting place where these activities can be focalized. is serious- ly needed. Membership in (‘ommunity Service will be open to every resident of Highland Park. The organization will be governed by a board of not more than thirty directors repres- entative of the city activities and geographical sections. It will have autlxrity to handle the money raised by the community for these purely community purposex (‘ommunity Service will retain the Army and Navy ('enter for several Very important reasons: to continue the entertainment of the Wounded sol- diers and'sailors. to provide a place where nurses. vocational Workers, and other army and navy social workers can find recreation. (‘ommunity activities include clubs, meeting rooms, dances at regular in- tervals. community music and sing- ing. the presentation of dramatics and pageants, and the observance of me- morial days. This is an opportunity for Highland Park, not so much to establish a com- munity movement here, but to pre- serve that which already exists. The War (‘amp Community Service has made this institution, expanded and fostered it, and now they give it over to the people of Highland Park, ready made. It is for the people of High- land Park to act.
