Prw thn Efi‘eds of Cigarette Habit On Monday morning in general sembly Mr. Sandwick gave a interesting talk on the evil efi'ed the cigarette habit. Heavies lmcâ€"up He pointed out that no boy who? smokes cigarettes has an equal chance in the business world; that during the war our boys needed the stimulation afforded by it. But now the war is over and there is a need for clear headed business men. In closing Mr. Sandwick made an earn- est appeal to the students not to imâ€" pair their health or demoralize their minds by indulging in the deadly “cof- fin nail." On Friday, Feb. 20, the English students of the junior and senior classes submitted essays on “TheI Benefits of One Year of Military Ser- 1 vice to a Young Man," to a board of literary critics at Ft. Sheridan. Eliza- beth Dickinson's essay was consider- ed to be the best theme but it was 180 words too long. Georgina Thomp- son’s theme was the next best and has been sent to Washington. This' contest is open to all High School' students in the United States and Lthe student who writes the best1 theme will be rewarded with a free trip to Washington. You would get an idea; of th roundings it is possible to have right here on yow If you have not done so, you should go over now. I believe you will find some of the beautiful gardens left, not destroyed during the war. You would get an idea; of the beautiful sur- roundings it is possible to have right here on your own grounds. You say the climate is different. That is true; but we have a great variety of trees, shrubs, evergreens, roses and other flOW- ers which grow very well here. Even with the limited variety we have in this country you can make your home not only beauti- ful, but wonderful, in Italian styles. I am prepared to draw plans for your garden and grounds after the Italian style, and will be glad to talk over such plans with the owners of North Shore property. I handle the work either on a time basis or by contract. No job is too small to have my attention; still I am prepared to handle contracts running into thousands of dollars. Won‘t you think it over? If you would like to, beautify your grounds, call up Highland Park 523 now, and I will prepare a plan during the Winter. The work can then be done early next Spring. Bear in mind that a job of this kind well done never needs to be done again. You save money by having it done right 1’. Sxxmh. I'I'; Imfl'y, it"; Hl'Slk‘l‘, mt; Dcnzd, h: Bummvrnmn, rf; (‘aper \.
