When the convictions for violation of the px'nhilwitnry law and the assess- ment of lines began to pile up it was reported that a large percantag‘e of the fines probably would never be col- lected, but doubt was dispelled Satur- day when State's Attorney A. V. Smith turned over to County Treasur- er Roy W. Brachet a check for $9,- 888.74 and received therefore a receipt for that amount, which includes fines and court costs. The above named sum is slightly more than three - fourths of the amount ofitines’to (late, the total fines assessed being approximately $12,000. $9,888.74 IN FINES PAID TO THE GOU'NTY Of the tines not paid there are a number who have taken appeals and therefore the tines cannot be collect- ed until the cases are disposed of, in event that the higher courts uphold the action of the local court. Among those who have appealed are Joseph and Marie Paulo, whose fines total $1,150, Tiodorra and Tony Faveli, $600, John Madruh, $800 and John Niemi, $800. The total amount of the fines still in doubt is $3,:j50. _ The fines collected go to defray the expenses of the state's attorney’s of- fice and the remainder goes into the sch001 fund of the county.
