b T be Highlanh Park Premium: Town“ m1 All who glance over the cable news or who read the magazines must have noted the many contracts entered into by the Ringling Brothers for foreign taleht last winter. A special ship Was chartered this spring to bring the hundreds of humnn per- formers. trained animal acts and equine displays to America. More than a million persons saw the mam- moth new circus of 1922 during the weeks that it exhibited in Madison Square Garden. New York. Now this marvelous exhibition is touring the country abogrd five ,zreat rail- road trains“ It is a third bigger than the Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey show of last season. It is ten Made even more tremendous than in 1921 .hy the recent addition of many more trained-wild animal dis- plays and the purchase of Europe's biggest horse Show. Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey combined will exhibit at Grant Park. Chicago, 9 days, starting July 22. Ringling Bros. and Barnum Bailey Bring Shipload of Novelties from Europe BIG NEW FEATURES ADDED TO COLOSSUS The Press believes that as good results would he obtained if officers “would warn the lesser ofi'vndcrs instead of hauling them into court alum? with the speed demons. Warnings in most cases would be as efi'ectivv as arrests, though not so remunerative for the “coppers.” In a circular notice sent out this week a well known automobile club warns its members and others, as follows: “Speed Trap. Watch out for officers in Studebaker and Cadillac touring curs patroling in vivinity of Lak_e_ Forest and Lake Bluff on Waukegan .‘md Telegraph road." Motorcycle policemen along the north shore, encouraced by the results of the early summer business. are reaping a golden harvest in most of the cities and villages between Evanston and Waukegan officers, who re- ceive a certain percentage of money collected in fines. are more than or-i dinarily active. Naturally when the law holds out to them the plum of inâ€" creased income through numerous arrests they are anxious to extract as much money as possible from passing motorists. It follows as a matter of course that these ofiicers are More interested in fattening: their own pocket- books than in actually enforcing the motor laws. They do not draw any line of distinction between a slight infringement of the speed laws and real reckless driving which endangers life' and limb. The technicalities of the laws afford them ample opportunity to haul scores of people before maids- trates and take from them money. a large proportion of which goes in fees to the oflicers. Motor laws should be enforced. of course. but they should be enforced with the idea of making: motoring safe for all; not merely to_'provide a_ source of revenue for motorcycle “coppers.” C. K. Nelson, inventor of the Eskimo pie. is said to be getting 830.000 3 week for his simple idea of coating :1 block of ice cream with a thin layer of hardened chocolate. He gets his money by selling to ice cream manufacturers the right to make Eskimo pies at a royalty of five cents a dozen. According to that he makes a million every eight months. Not as much as Henry Ford or John D., but Nelson is the son of a confectioner at Onawa, Iowa. and a year ago he had no idea that vast riches Were in store for him. And yet they tell us that success is “one tenth inspiration and nine'tenths perspiration." NUMBER 19 Published weekly by JOHN L. UDELL and PAL’L 1..
