Age 95; passed away in Peoria IL; resident of Sun City West AZ since 2002, formerly of Glenview IL; born in Alton KS, first of four sons of Dale DeFord and Lena Hadley; married in 1942; earned BA in 1940, MA and PhD in 1947 and 1948 at U. of Kansas; served in U.S. Army in Guadalcanal and Philippines during WWII; continued 20 years in Reserves, rose to rank of Colonel; professor of chemistry at Northwestern U. from 1948-1987; published 40+ scholarly papers, served as member of Advisory Board of Analytical Chemistry (American Chemical Society publication); member of Glenview Methodist Church (where wife served 36 years as choir director); his daughter, Ruth, is a retired Professor of Music at Hunter College in New York, and son, David, an engineer in San Francisco - Date of Publication
