C5 Use of Crystal Ball | * The crystal ball is used to make it easier for the person to dayâ€"dream. With all the lights extinguished exâ€" cept that illuminating the crystal one can very readily lose himself in reâ€" verie. The colorings in the ball take very beautiful and fanmtasti¢t forms and one imagines all sorts of pictures as soon as seen therein. The reasons why this holds true, involves highly theoretical discussions but the test has been tried under enough conditions to make it a very reliable index. One of its virtues is that the subject does not realize what it‘is that is being measured and if he does, the rsponse he makes is beyond his control. | Other persons require a more inâ€" tense sound to enable them ‘to hear when they are dayâ€"dreaming. The ones who hear the fainter sound are the sociable type of person and the ones who require the louder sound are the nonâ€"sociable type. dream, to lose himself in reveri¢. He is permitted to dayâ€"dream| for ten minutes and while in reverie the faintest sound he can hear is again determined. The sound is produced by a vacuum tube and the intensity is regulated by a series of non-rrelductive resistances all of which are contained in the portable apparatus. How It Operates How does this measure whether or not a person is sociable? With some persons it is found that a fainter sound willâ€"be as clearly heard when they are dayâ€"dreaming and not atâ€" tending to the sounds, than when they are alert. The test is performed follows: The subject to be tested is in a quiet room and a receiver placed to his ear. «By means of the a the faintest sound that subject can hear is determined. subject is then placed in a room which is toâ€" tally dark with the on of a weak illumination under a three inch glass crystal ball.
