The ordinance further provides for the payment of $1,200 per year to a City Attorney, which office they creâ€" ated. This, I feel, is unnecessary and expensive to the people of Highland Park, as one man can easily perform all legal duties for the city. I base this statement on the fact that there are few cities of this size, having more than one attorney. / The saiary of the City Treasurer is absence of other legal opinion on this being increased thirtyâ€"three percent although my suggestion of a very capable man, willing to do the work at the old salary, was ignored. The total increases in salaries for present employees amount to over $5,â€" 700. New employees taken on, adds $11,040 more, making total salary inâ€" creases of over $16,700 annually. , among other things, shall be intrustâ€" ed with the duty of conducting proseâ€" cutions under the Zoning and Build~ ing Ordinances. In this connection, he is given the right to compromise with any violator of these ordinances when, in his judgment, the public inâ€" terest does not require that such acâ€" tion upon such terms as, to him, may seem equitable. The salary of the City Collector was increased from $3,000 to $3,400 per year, although this office could undoubtedly be filled. at an expense not exeeedi‘u $2,400 per year. Commissioner Reay then introduced the appointment of Samuel S. Holmes as Corporation Counsel and this was carried over the dissenting votes of Mr. Gourley and myself. An ordinance creating the office of City Attorney and prescribing the duties of such office was also introâ€" duced by Commissioner Reay. This ordinance provides that the City Atâ€" torney shall be under the direction and supervision of the Corporation Counsel and that the City Attorney, copons ns you wish, but only one mame of your favorite will be conâ€" sidered. _ â€" « Votes will be received only until midnight, June 19. will not be received.
