The pastor had known Judge Gary intimately for many years, and as one of his spiritual advisors, was privilâ€" eged to know his principles and charâ€" acteristics. It was most impressive to note that the services and the ceremonies of the last rites were conducted with true countryâ€"side_simplicity and sincerity. The elderly pastor‘s tribute and reâ€" view were expressed in plain and simâ€" ple Ianguage. . He spoke with spiritual feeling of his friend, the great leader, whose birthright and birthplace, like that of the great emancipator Abraham Linâ€" €oln, and other famous Americans, comprised "Son of countryside parâ€" ents and environment of American farm life." The following tribute to Judge Elâ€" bert H. Gary, written by former Mayâ€" or Samuel M. Hastings, appears in the current issue of the Manufacturâ€" ers‘ News, whose editor requested Mr. Hastings to prepare the article for that publication. Mr. Hastings kas kindly furnished the Press with a copy of the tribute, which s as follows : As one who was privilegzed to be numbered among this group, I was most profoundly impressed with the great influence of the exemplary life and wonderful achievemets of the faâ€" mous American who had passed on.
