Out of a total of 36 suburbs makâ€" ing comparative reports, the figures of S. W. Straus & Co. show that 23 of the suburbs made gains as against the same period last year. Evanston‘s traditional rival, Oak Park, went even a little better making a gain of 185 per cent, with a May total of $1,372,257 as against $480,814 for May last year. Suburbs Make Gains ‘Other suburbs making significant gains were: Aurora 146 per cent, Chicago Heights 147 per cent, Elgin 239 per cent, Elmwood Park 323 per cent, Glen Ellyn 261 per cent, Highâ€" land Park 23 per cent, Joliet 76 perâ€" cent, La Grange 44 per cent, Lake Forest 23 per cent, Maywood 88 per eent, Mount Prospect 67 per cent, NWiles Center 78 per cent, North Chiâ€" eago, 41 per cent, Wheaton 52 per cent, Wilmette 57 per cent, and Winâ€" metka 42 per cent. Other suburbs making Mayâ€"May gains were Batavia, Blue Island, Glencoe and Hammond. Kenilworth, with a monthly gain of 587 per cent, eclipsed all other suburbs whether South, West or North, although the Kenilworth total for the month was only $250,775, a figure considerably under that of some of its larger neighbors. While the larger suburban towns of Aurors, Joliet, Elgin and Hamâ€" mond all made gains, the industrial towns of Gary and Waukegan sufâ€" fered large losses.
