A.; Who He Is Speaking as one of the foremost leaders of American education, Dr. William John Cooper,; U. S. Commisâ€" sioner of education, will address the annual joint meeting of Parentâ€"Teachâ€" er associations on "Democracy and the High School" Thursday evening, April 10, at 8 o‘clock in the Deerfieldâ€" Shields high school auditorium. Parentâ€"Teacher associations and other organizations of the entire high school district have united in bringâ€" ing Dr. Cooper to Highland Park. Dr. Wm. John Cooper Dr. Cooper‘s vast experience. in American education extends over all grades and kinds of school work from the elementary to the university grades. At present he is deeply inâ€" terested in a survey. of secondary education, the extension of ~modern inventions such as the "talkie" in the teaching of certain subjects, and in the equalization of educational opâ€" portunities throughout the nation. Dr. Cooper comes to the office of (Continued on page 46) _ Scouts Hobby Show Postponed to May 2 The Hobby Show and court of honor for the Highland Park Boy Scout troops has been postponed to Friday, May 2, 7:30 p.m. at the Elm Place school. This was necessary because of a conflict in dates with the Spring Muâ€" sic Festival at the Lincoln school this ecming Friday. Rowena Bennett at Ravinia Woman‘s Club Mrs. Rowena Bennett will give readâ€" ings from her published and unpubâ€" lished writings at the meeting of the Ravinia: Woman‘s club next Wednesâ€" day afternoon in the Ravinia audiâ€" torium. Mrs. Bennet lived in Ravinia until several years ago when the family moved into the Skokie valley. She ‘has published a number of chilâ€" dren‘s stories and completed the libâ€" retto of a children‘s opera for which Miss Bentley of Ravinia is composing the lyrics. It therefore seems best to the undersigned to make the folâ€" lowing brief statement: In 1907 by petition and unanimous affirmative vote in the southern part of Shields township and by a conâ€" current aflirmative vote in Deerfieldâ€" township, that part of Shields stretchâ€" ing from the south boundary line at | Farwell‘s crossing to the northern limits of Lake Forest and west to Libertyville township was annexed to the Deerficld Township High school district and the name changed to Deerfieldâ€"Shields.
