We enter the village, lying 2500 feet above sea level, inhabited by nbout 800 sturdy. homely German mountain folk, mostly of Gatholic faith, speaking the Bavarian dialect, many in native garb, the men conâ€" spicuous by their long beards and bushy hair. The winding streets are paved. â€" The houses are built of stone, wood â€" and> cement with projecting eaves, balconies and porticos. _ In many cases the barn is attached with its inevitable pile of fertilizer built in "Gothic‘ style. ‘The houses are lighted by electricity.: Every one is planned to serve as & pension or boarding house. ‘ During the play these 800. people house and feed daily 5,000 guests and furnish for the play about 650 of their ‘own number. The village is in need of a modern water and sewer system. Baseball games and ‘other . park sports were enjoyed by many, while the openâ€"air dancing every evening permitted no one to leave.
