Saturday of last week was the heaviest in the history of the local water works. From midnight Friday to midnight Saturday, six million eight hundred and seventy thousand gallons of water were pumped into the mains. This was nearly two million more than the heaviest day of last year. Most of this was used in sprinkling. Prepared for Future! The ability of the new plant to care for increased future demand may ‘be judged from the following. The average daily consumption durâ€" ing last weekâ€"one of the hottest in yearsâ€" was slightly under five milâ€" lion four hundred thousand gallons, while the plant is capable of continâ€" vously delivering nine million galâ€" lons daily. The heaviest single day of the weekâ€"Saturdayâ€"the demand was a little underâ€"seven million galâ€" lons, whereas for a single day . the plant easily put out eleven million gallons. > The unusually heavy flows through the mains last week stirred up mud deposits in the pipes in some parts of the town. This caused annoyance to the water users and resulted in telephoné. inquiries as to whether anything had gone wrong with the filter plant. ~When the customers were assured that nothing but sparâ€" kling water was being delivered at the plant end, and that the mud was the result of deposits in the old mains of years standing, they genâ€" erally accepted the situation with inâ€" telligent patience. Plan Cleaning of Mains As son as it is practicable to do so, the city will undertake a very thorâ€" ough program of water main cleanâ€" ing. When this is complete, it is exâ€" pected that no further trouble will beâ€" experiengced. ‘The reason that such cleaning is not now under way Highland Park‘s new pumping staâ€" tion and filter plant, which is an outâ€" standing achievement of the present city administration, was designed by, and. constructed under the superviâ€" sicn of, Pearse, ‘Greeley & Hansen, hydraulic . and sanitary . engineers. The informationâ€"given above was seâ€" cured from them through their resiâ€" dent engineer, George B. Prindle. Thursday, July 24, 1930 H. P. WATER PLANT MEETS ALL DEMANDS lower pressures resulted. This, of wourse, could not be charged against the <plant. is that the process requires the cutâ€" ting off of the water mains into numâ€" crous small sections, by the use of the street valves. While this can be readily done in the cooler months, when the water consumption is low, any effort to accomplish it at this time would reduce the pressure sufâ€" ficiently to cause hardship to the water users.
