The spell of extremely hot and dry weather, which was broken by a light shower on Monday of this week, severely tested the water departâ€" ments of the North Shore suburbs. In an effort to save dying vegetation sprinklers were used night and day. Never before has there been such a demandfor water, and some of the communities found their plants too small to meet the needs. In Evansâ€" ton many of the third stories of buildings were without water. Winâ€" netka found it necessary to pump unâ€" filtered lake water into its.mains, as the capacity of the filters had been passed. The Glencoe plant was overâ€" leaded but managed to, serve its paâ€" trons at a reduced pressure. Lake Forest found it necessary to restrict the use of water sprinkling. Local Plant Adequate During this period of extreme deâ€" mand Highland Park‘s new water plant was not only able to meet the requirements of its customers, but it had a large reserve capacity which was untouched. It was possible at all times to keep the storage tank in Sunset park well filled, thus mainâ€" taining the usual pressure. ‘In a few places in town the mains proved too small to carry the unusual flow, and (Continued on page 35) © Hold Benefit Party M at Moraine Hotel H. Andrews of the Deerâ€" field Presbyterian church will be the speaker at the Bethany church, Sunâ€" day ‘evening. Rev. Andrews has a large circle of friends in Highland Park who will welcome the announceâ€" ment of his coming. The attendance at the Summer Sunday: Evening serâ€" vices has been very good thus far. One of the reasons for this is that the church can be made comfortable even in the hottest kind of weather by means of the fan system, which was installed at the time the church was built. The public is invited to come and enjoy the inspiration of these services and take with them a message that will be helpful in daily life. \ Rev. Mr. Kelley spent two days in Minneapolis getting entries, and conâ€" centrated all of his efforts in helpâ€" ing out in every way possible. The cut on the cover page of this irsue of the Press is what might be termed a "picture without words." Words would only fail to adequately describe this cute little portrayal of two innocents abroad taking their commissary with them. They may be only tree sitters â€"the picture does not take in enough territory to deâ€" termine their surroundings altoâ€" getherâ€"and again they may be just posing for the movies as a demonâ€" stration of a characteristic mutually inherent. In any event the picture shows how two Highland Park busiâ€" ness men looked some 42 years ago, and the fact that they have been in business in Highland Park for 20 years is the only available tip to help identify them, as it is generally unâ€" derstood that they have not as yet been fingerâ€"printed; and, also, they seem to have been "bottleâ€"fed," there certainly can‘t be any alibi about that. Here‘s a Commissary Tip for Tree Sitters; Bottleâ€"Fed & No Alibi . The Sunset Valley Golf club would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Paul Udell and the Highland Park Press for their valuable assistâ€" ance in making the North Shore Open a success, The Highland Park Press has always been most helpful in all ventures of Sunset Valley, and the improvement of the club has been due largely to the assistance of the Highland Park Press. The Tee club is finishing up its handicap tournament this week. Pracâ€" tically all of the members of the club kave played in this tourney, and the finals will be run off next week. There will be a consolation round also. Activities at the Sunset Valley Golf club have gone on with increasâ€" ing interest since the North Shore Open. The enthusiasm which people showed for that tournament did not die when the affair was over, and there have been many who sought to improve their own golf games after watching the sterling games of some of the professionals. This coming Sunday there will be an 18 hole class tournament, including classes A, B, and C. This is a handicap affair and should draw many from the three classes. Numerous Activities At Sunset Valley Are Keeping Members Busy 81,000 feet of space will be provided for the recreationad work, with 600 feet frontage on Burton avenue exâ€" tending to a depth of 135 feet. Police headquarters received a teleâ€" phone call from Deere Park yesterâ€" day saying that an object had been noted about a mile off shore in the lake which looked like a capsized sailboat, and that apparently there were figures clinging to it. The poâ€" lice notified the beach guard, where a boat was mvailable and an investiâ€" gation of the report was in progress. Report Boat Capsized _ Out in Lake Yesterday Completion of the playground, inâ€" cluding installation of apparatus, is promised for next summer. Besides the: usual recreation equipment, proâ€" vision will be made for flooding a skating rink in the winter, according to Superintendent L&ing.
